Masahiromaruyama

Unfinished Art

Masahiro Maruyama launched his eponymous line in 2011 out of frustration: he couldn't find a pair of glasses in his own neighborhood that reflected how he saw the world, so he started hand-carving frames himself. That instinct became the brand's guiding concept, "unfinished art" — a belief that a small, deliberate asymmetry, the kind you'd only notice up close, gives a frame more character than conventional perfection ever could.

Each collection takes its name from an artistic idea and builds the frame around it: Kintsugi borrows the Japanese art of repairing pottery with visible seams, Broken reconstructs fragmented forms, Twist hand-bends metal into carefully imperfect curves. The frames are made in Sabae, Japan's eyewear capital, where traditional hinge-mounting and hand-filing techniques are put toward asymmetrical details like single-drop temples and reconstructed lenses — work that earned the brand a Silmo d'Or Grand Prix in Paris.
